#2 Procedure of soil sample collection for soil testing?
Scrap away surface litter, the weeds, trash etc. take a uniform core of soil from surface to plough depth 15 cm (6”-9”) by means of soil auger or soil tube or give a V shaped cut upto a depth of 15 cm with spade or khurpa & take 2 cm thick uniform slice of soil. Take soil from 6- 8 random spot in a zigzag pattern in the field, collecting them in a clean container or bucket. Mix well the soil collected from different spots of the field and take ½ kg composite sample as to follows: (I) Divide the soil collected into four parts and again & discard two of them. (II) Mix well the soil of remaining two parts and again divide into four parts of which only two are taken and put this in a plastic bag & then in a cloth bag. Label each composite soil sample with name, address & field no. etc. (III) Take this composite soil sample for testing to District Soil Testing Labs.

#5 Field preparation practices for Tomato cultivation?
First, prepare a nursery bed to raise the seedlings for transplanting in the field. The raised beds should be 3 meters in length (North - South) and 1 meter in width with 10-15 cm height. Cover the seed with manure mixture (soil : FYM : sand) in the ratio of 1 : 2 : 1 and after seed germination cover the beds with agronet at 1.5 feet height to protect the seedlings from white fly & Jassids. Deep ploughing should be done in the main field followed by cross cultivation with the cultivator. The land needs to be levelled before transplanting the Tomato seedlings.

Use of Growth Regulators: Foliar spray of fruits at lime fruit sized stage with 20 ppm Gibberlic acid (20 mg/litre of water) increases the fruit size and quality. About 250 litre spray solution is required per acre depending upon the crop growth.

#10 Preventive measures to be taken in order to avoid drying of the Oyster Mushroom?
• The entire poly bag should not be removed • Merely small slits (1-2cm) or holes 3-4 Nos, may be made on the poly bag so that mushrooms come out only from these slits. This will maintain the microenvironment and prevent moisture loss. • Gunny bags in 1 or 2 layers may be hung all along the wall of the cropping chamber like curtain and may be always kept wet through dripping pipe on top of the gunny bag all around. • Sand may be spread on the floor and always kept wet. • No direct watering must be done on mushrooms. • If mushrooms are still drying despite the above measures, it could be due to bacterial infection. Such bags may be removed from the cropping room and discarded or made into vermin compost. • No chemical must be sprayed on mushrooms under any circumstances as there is no waiting period in mushrooms and spray of chemicals to control any contamination or infection may lead to health hazards.

Cowpea grown for green pods for vegetable purpose in summer season seed must be treated by carbendazi m @2.5 gram/kg of seed while in kharif season seed treatment by captan/thiram @2.5 gram/kg of seed. Ensure certified seed and bacterial-free seed.
#12 Control of Fruit drop in Mango plant?
Mango exhibits maximum fruit drop i.e. 90-99% in the initial 3-4 weeks after fruit set. Cause of fruit drop in mango: 1. Water stress to be avoided during fruit development period. 2. Manures and fertilizers should be given for maintaining nutrition soil. 3. Timely control of insect and pest like mango hopper. 4. Regular irrigation and proper control of pests and diseases during fruit setting and development stages decrease fruit drop to a certain extent. NAA should be applied @ 20 ml per 1000 litre. This dose may vary from 20 to 40 ml per 1000 litre as per conditions of soil, plant and environment or 2,4 D @ 10-15 ppm 1 gram per 100 litre of sprays.

#17 Measures to control Coconut nut dropping?
Recommended dose of fertilizers has to be applied in two split doses, one before onset of monsoon and one before start of irrigation season and maintaining proper irrigation schedule is to be adhered. Nut drop @ 5-10% is common in high yielding coconut palms. Recommended dose of fertilizer for coconut is 1 kg urea, 1.5 kg rock phosphate (in acidic soil) or 2 kg super phosphate (in other soils) and 2 kg of muriate of potash (MOP). Or apply 700 g Di-ammonium phosphate (DAP), 815 g of Urea and 2 kg of MOP. If immature dropping of nuts persists, apply 50 g Borax per palm once in six months. Nut drop can also occur due to deficiency of Magnesium or zinc. So, get soil testing done before applying of fertilizers.

#25 Planting time for Papaya?
The time of sowing depends upon the choice of fruiting season and danger of rain or frost. Young plants are sensitive to water logging and frost. The suitable time for raising papaya is during March to April (i.e. day temperature around 30-32oC and night temperature around 20-22oc). The seedlings are ready for transplanting after 30 to 46 days of sowing. In South India, seeds are sown almost round the year from March to September so that the plants are reasonably mature before the onset of winter.

Apply urea in 3 equal splits, first before 3 weeks of expected bloom 2nd at 3 weeks after fruit set and 3rd in the month of June-July. MOP should be applied in 2 equal splits 1st with first split of urea and 2nd with 2nd dose of urea . Whole DAP should be applied as basal.

Prepare Diesel oil spray by adding 3.5 kg fish oil (potash base) in 100 litres of water, boil the solution and cool down it at room temperature then add 100 litres of diesel oil, at the time of spray in the ratio of 1:10, take 1 litre to stock solution in 10 litre of water + 100 ml Ethion.

Take fresh Ginger roots in a bowl and soak it in water for 3 to 4 minutes and wash gently under running water to remove the dirt completely. After that remove outer shell with the help of sharp wooden knife (don't use a metal knife ) after that place ginger under sunlight for drying. After that process, dried Ginger should be given a quick dip in lime water for 4-6 hours and then dry it in sunlight and repeat this process for 2-3 times so that colour of Sonth appears to be white.

Alternatively, the top most coconut leaf axils may be filled with powdered neem cake/ marotti cake / pongamia cake @ 250 g/palm + fine sand (250 g) per palm during pre and post monsoon months (May, September, December) as a prophylactic measure. Fill the innermost two leaf axils with 12 g of naphthalene balls covered with sand at 45 days interval.
